Concert Band is one of the non-auditioned ensembles within LUUMS, performing a variety of genres ranging from film scores to wind band classics. The band is compiled of brass, woodwind and percussion players of all abilities. The pieces played in Concert Band contain a mixture of parts so there are opportunities for everyone to play confidently. Concert Band has a relaxed vibe, catering to those who want to play for fun and make new friends while still performing high quality music.

Concert Band performs regularly throughout the year. These performances include concerts as part of the LUUMS concert series across both terms, some busking at Christmas all through Leeds City Centre and the ensemble showcases, where we perform with all the other non-auditioned ensembles within LUUMS.

Concert Band is proud to have large involvement with a diverse membership across all academic disciplines.

After every rehearsal, there is a relaxed trip to Old Bar, where band members can socialise. Other social highlights of the year include an annual summer BBQ, a festive Christmas party and activities such as Trampolining and trips to Laser Quest. We also participate in wider LUUMS socials which take place throughout the year, including an annual ball and live music events.

Concert Band rehearsals have now started but don't worry if you have missed the first couple, just come along and play!

David Richardson

Hi, I'm David, I'm a 3rd year History/History of Science student from Durham. I've been in the North East brass banding scene since I was 8, playing euphonium and now trombone as well. I have been part of Brass Band, Concert Band and Sinfonia, and I'm looking forward to managing Concert Band this year. I'm excited for meeting everyone and having fun as a band and as friends.

Ethan Skirving

Ethan is an MSc Medical Imaging student from Teesside, in the North-East. Primarily a Percussionist, he currently plays for a variety of bands and orchestras both back home and in Leeds and has thoroughly enjoyed playing in numerous LUUMS ensembles during his undergraduate degree. His musical interests vary from classical symphonies to big band jazz, though he has a particular love for brass and wind band music. Ethan conducted the LUUMS Concert Band last year, and is delighted to be able to continue the role for another year with a mix of wind band classics and new works in the pipeline!

Dom Francis

Dom is a 3rd year Maths student from St Helens, Merseyside. Originally growing up playing the piano, he picked up the trombone at 15 years old which he has played with various brass bands including St Helens Youth Brass Band and Skelmersdale Prize Band. At LUUMS, he has played in Brass Band and Concert Band for the last two years and has thoroughly enjoyed it. LUUMS has been a large part of his university experience so far and this year he wants to help provide the same great experience for everyone else.
