LUUMS CONCERT BAND
Concert Band is one of the un-auditioned ensembles within LUUMS, performing a variety of genres ranging from Disney films to British sea songs. The band is compiled of brass, woodwind and percussion players of all abilities. The pieces played in Concert Band contain a mixture of parts so there are opportunities for everyone to play confidently. Concert Band has a relaxed vibe, catering to those who want to play for fun and make new friends while still performing high quality music.
Concert Band performs regularly throughout the year. These performances include joint concerts with Leeds Concert Band, performances within wider LUUMS concerts and a Christmassy-Busking performance in Leeds City Centre.
Concert Band is proud to have large involvement with a diverse membership across all academic disciplines.
After every rehearsal, there is a relaxed trip to Old Bar, where band members can socialise. Other social highlights of the year include an annual summer BBQ, a festive Christmas party and activities such as Trampolining and trips to Laser Quest. We also participate in wider LUUMS socials which take place throughout the year, including an annual ball and live music events.
Concert Band rehearsals have now started but don't worry if you have missed the first couple, just come along and play!
Fridays 5pm – 7pm
Rehearsal Hall, School of Music

Sophie is a 2nd year French and History student from Bury in Greater Manchester. She plays the clarinet in Concert Band and also sings in Symphonic Choir, having previously been involved in orchestras and choirs in her home town. She is also a keen pianist and has a love of many different musical genres. Sophie has a great interest in politics and environmental issues and you can often find her on a demo in Leeds city centre! She enjoys hiking and badminton and loves travelling to different parts of Europe. Sophie is passionate about maintaining the friendly and relaxed atmosphere in Concert Band and is looking forward to her role as manager this year.
Tom is a 3rd year Physics Student from Rutland, in the East Midlands (just near Leicester). This is his first time conducting any kind of formal ensemble, and is keen to take on the challenge and widen his musical skill set. Before finding his brass calling with the trombone, Tom was a classically and jazz trained pianist, as well as playing guitar and bass guitar. When playing or (attempting to) conduct music, Tom can be found in Old Bar, both behind and in front of the bar, hanging off a rock climbing wall or getting destroyed by his housemates on Mario Kart.
Annie is a second year euphonium student on the Bmus performance course. Originally from Northamptonshire, she benefitted from the excellent music service and county music groups. Last year Annie played in the concert band, as well as the brass band and the symphony orchestra, and now wants to further her skills in conducting alongside her playing. Outside of LUUMS she plays in the Rothwell Temperance brass band. When she manages to get out of the music department Annie enjoys kayaking and spending time in Old Bar.
Jacob is a third year Computer Science student from Cardiff in Wales. He has been playing cornet and trumpet since he was 9, and has played in many brass bands and orchestras. He has been a member of the LUUMS Brass Band and Concert Band for 2 years now, and loved every minute of it. That's why he decided to take on this role, to ensure that concert band has another great year.
