LUUMS CONCERT BAND
Concert Band is one of the un-auditioned ensembles within LUUMS, performing a variety of genres ranging from Disney films to British sea songs. The band is compiled of brass, woodwind and percussion players of all abilities. The pieces played in Concert Band contain a mixture of parts so there are opportunities for everyone to play confidently. Concert Band has a relaxed vibe, catering to those who want to play for fun and make new friends while still performing high quality music.
Concert Band performs regularly throughout the year. These performances include joint concerts with Leeds Concert Band, performances within wider LUUMS concerts and a Christmassy-Busking performance in Leeds City Centre.
Concert Band is proud to have large involvement with a diverse membership across all academic disciplines.
After every rehearsal, there is a relaxed trip to Old Bar, where band members can socialise. Other social highlights of the year include an annual summer BBQ, a festive Christmas party and activities such as Trampolining and trips to Laser Quest. We also participate in wider LUUMS socials which take place throughout the year, including an annual ball and live music events.
Concert Band rehearsals have now started but don't worry if you have missed the first couple, just come along and play!
Fridays 5pm – 7pm
Rehearsal Hall, School of Music

Jacob is a fourth year Computer Science student from Cardiff in Wales. He has been playing cornet and trumpet since he was 9, and has played in many brass bands and orchestras. He has been a member of the LUUMS Brass Band and Concert Band for 3 years now, managing Concert Band last year. He's loved every minute of it, and that's why he decided to take on this role, to ensure that Concert Band has another fun and exciting year. He's especially looking forward to organising some new socials so the new band can get to know each other.
Tom is a Postgraduate Primary with Maths education student, hailing from the UK’s smallest county, Rutland. He started out on Piano and guitar and has now transitioned to trombone and bass trombone. Last year, he wielded the tiny white stick at the helm of Concert Band, and has played in the LUUMS Brass Band for all 3 years of his undergraduate degree. This year, Tom is looking forward to carrying on the great work that Concert Band did last year, playing as much Bass Trombones as he can and sipping pints of 2:1 in Old Bar with his band mates.
