LUUMS Chorus is an open ensemble within the society and we welcome anyone who loves to sing. The choir is not auditioned, just simply come along to one of our ‘give it a go’ sessions!

Chorus showcases a wide variety of music, so there is something for everyone. Last year our repertoire included Gospel songs like ‘Joyful, Joyful’ and ‘His Eye Is On The Sparrow’ as well as Disney classics like ‘Reflection’ from Mulan, and songs from films like ‘May It Be’ from The Lord Of The Rings’ and even the James Bond title song ‘Skyfall’. This year we have some exciting plans to explore some more Choral, Pop, Rock, and Show-tune arrangements - so come along to find out! Chorus also prides itself on being an inclusive community of singers, so we always support ideas or suggestions from members of the choir.

There are a variety of socials planned for this year including; the traditional post rehearsal social at Old Bar, nights out and food related fun. There’s also the regular LUUMS socials! Chorus performs in termly LUUMS concerts and we are looking to collaborate with other ensembles this year too.

Rehearsals are every Monday at 5.30-7.30, please feel free to come along, join in and sing; it's a sure way of beating those Monday blues!

Join our Facebook group if you would like to come along.

Ellen McDonald

Ellen is a 2nd year BA Music student and she’s super excited to be a manager of Chorus this year! She attended Chorus rehearsals online during her first year and she’s very excited to be able to bring Chorus back together in person for her first proper year in the school of music. While her main passion is film music and scoring, she’s always loved singing. Ellen ran an a capella group during her sixth form years and loves to experiment with arrangements of her favourite songs. She was also a member of the National Youth Choir of Great Britain for 7 years. Along with Veryan and Molly, she’s excited to figure out what being a part of LUUMS means by diving in head first and learning on the job!

Molly Rigby

Molly is a BA Music student in her final year at the University of Leeds. Throughout her time at school and university she has been involved in leading choirs, and was lucky enough to become the conductor of chorus in her second year. Despite the pandemic, online rehearsals were held every Monday. Molly is so excited to be back performing with chorus, and she hopes you enjoy the show.

Veryan Dawe

Veryan is a second year BSc Maths and Music Student from Suffolk and is looking forward to being one of the LUUMS Chorus managers this year. She plays violin and piano and has performed and recorded internationally and across the UK with local choirs, school ensembles and the NCCGB. She has really enjoyed being a part of LUUMS Chorus over the past year and can’t wait to bring back the social aspects of the choir after a year of singing online.
