LUUMS Chorus is an open ensemble within the society and we welcome anyone who loves to sing. The choir is not auditioned, just simply come along to one of our ‘give it a go’ sessions!

Chorus showcases a wide variety of music, so there is something for everyone. Last year our repertoire included Gospel songs like ‘Joyful, Joyful’ and ‘His Eye Is On The Sparrow’ as well as Disney classics like ‘Reflection’ from Mulan, and songs from films like ‘May It Be’ from The Lord Of The Rings’ and even the James Bond title song ‘Skyfall’. This year we have some exciting plans to explore some more Choral, Pop, Rock, and Show-tune arrangements - so come along to find out! Chorus also prides itself on being an inclusive community of singers, so we always support ideas or suggestions from members of the choir.

There are a variety of socials planned for this year including; the traditional post rehearsal social at Old Bar, nights out and food related fun. There’s also the regular LUUMS socials! Chorus performs in termly LUUMS concerts and we are looking to collaborate with other ensembles this year too.

Rehearsals are every Monday at 5.30-7.30, please feel free to come along, join in and sing; it's a sure way of beating those Monday blues!

Join our Facebook group if you would like to come along.

Mondays 5:00pm – 7:00pm

Emma Hughes (she/her)

Emma is a second year MEng mechanical engineering student and is so excited to be managing chorus this year. Music has always been a large part of her life and she has sung in various choirs including NCCGB, performing in various places both in the UK and abroad. Emma has loved singing with chorus in her first year as light relief from academic work and meeting new people she wouldn’t have met otherwise. Shes so excited to be working alongside Ruben and Gaby for another year of chorus fun.

Ruben Butterfield Macpherson (he/him)

Ruben is a 3rd year Music and Music Psychology student. Last year he was also able to be a part of the other two LUUMS choirs, Chamber and Symphonic, and has really enjoyed it. He plays the drums as his first instrument and has played in venues around England. He has previously sung with the BBC Philharmonic at the BBC Proms and has conducted his Sixth Form’s Chamber Choir. Ruben can’t wait to be part of the Chorus team with Gaby and Emma.

Gabrielle Jordan (she/her)

Gabrielle, is a second year BA Geography student who cannot wait to be a part of the LUUMS chorus manager team!

Having sung in choirs and theatre shows throughout school, she is looking forward to be both singing and helping to choose new repertoire, along with Emma and Ruben.

Chorus in first year was a fantastic musical outlet as well as, social activity and she hopes to be able to bring lots of fun and enthusiasm to another exciting year of chorus!
