AUDITIONS

Hello, and thank you for showing interest in auditioning to join our society this year. All the details of how to audition, where to go and what to audition for are below, but if you have any further questions, do not hesitate to contact Lotte, the society secretary who can help you out! SIGNING UP

Go to the Freshers Fair at the University of Leeds student union and locate the LUUMS stand. We will be waiting here to answer any questions and sign you up for an audition. 

If for any reason you cannot attend theFreshers Fair, email Lotte who will sign you up online for an audition, at luums.secretary@gmail.com

WHERE 

Auditions will be held in the School of Music basement, onsite at the university. Once you arrive around the back of the building at the blue double doors, someone will be there to meet you and to guide you to a warm up room (as long as you show up 10 minutes early).

AUDITION

There are 4 auditioned ensembles; Symphony Orchestra, Symphonic Wind Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra and Chamber Choir. Here are the audition requirements:

Chamber Choir

Please prepare one short unaccompanied piece in a classical style (e.g. a national song, hymn or folk song) and bring a copy for panel to see. The rest of the audition will consist of vocal range exercises, aural tests and some short sight reading. 

 

Symph/SWO/Chamber

The audition consists of one short prepared piece/excerpt, which will be unaccompanied in the audition (approx. 2-3 mins in length) and some sight reading given by the ensemble managers. There will then be some time for a short informal chat an any questions you may have.

FAQ's

Q. Can I audition for more than one ensemble?

A. Yes you can! Simply sign up for one audition per instrument per ensemble - you can audition for more than one instrument per ensemble too if you like. 

Q. When do ensembles officially start rehearsals?

A. The week after auditions! Join the ensemble socials pages to be informed of all rehearsal info. Our GAG (give it a go) sessions for every unauditioned ensemble dates will be announced soon. 

Q. When do I pay my membership fee? 

A. You will have one month to pay this online.
